The Finished Basement – The Key to Hosting a Cool Party
As the 4th of July comes upon us, many of us are either planning to attend a holiday BBQ or are working to get ready to host one. If you are planning to throw a party for friends and family this year, there are a few issues that are easily overlooked. We know you’ll have all the food and drinks needed to keep the party going, but where are you going to entertain the guests? Outside? What if there are thunderstorms or excessive heat (which there usually is in the DC area in July)? How do you keep your friends and family cool during the heat of a summer BBQ?
You can have everyone congregate on the deck and in the kitchen area, which is sometime fun but is sometimes just sweaty and uncomfortable. While there isn’t time to make major improvements before this Independence Day celebration, you might consider the entertaining options provided by a finished walkout basement. Even if your basement is primarily below grade, there is usually an access door that allows egress to your backyard entertainment haven.
One very popular basement finishing feature we enjoy creating is a wet bar (and full bars, too), sometimes in combination with a man cave or home theater seating and entertainment system. This takes care of both issues spoken about above, the basement is naturally cooler than the rest of your house, so beating the heat is easy without having the A/C working overtime to cool the house with all the extra bodies inside. A perfect scenario would be having a fully stocked bar, access to the outdoors for games, the grill and enjoying being out of the house.
Keeping your guests cool during your party make it more enjoyable for your guests and for you! As we mentioned above – having the party in your basement helps keep your guests cool without having to crank the A/C. Another great benefit of having a walkout basement, especially if you have the wet bar/full bar, is that you have all of the benefits of having the party on the main level of your home, having guests come in and out of your home to the deck and back into the main level into the kitchen area, plus the additional entertaining area in the wider open area of a basement allows for much improved “mingling” between guests.
Be sure to let us know how we can help you with your basement finishing project, and remember to share pictures from next year’s celebration with us!
