One of the hardest decisions you’ll ever have to make as a homeowner is deciding which colors to use throughout your home. The paint on your walls, the ceiling colors, various decor shades, and so on and so forth.
Deciding which colors to feature on the exterior of your home is also extremely important to the overall look, feel, and even emotions you get when looking at the home from the curbside. If your home has a log cabin vibe, which species of wood are you going to go with? If you’re going the paneling route, which color best fits your personality and taste preferences? Once you decide on the materials and colors to use for the body of your home, you still have one more important decision to make: Which color to go with for your shingles.
For some homeowners, the shingle color is an afterthought; ultimately deciding that a classic charcoal color is what they’ll go with. And, while charcoal is a fantastic choice in of itself, there are so many great options for shingles out there today, and more and more homeowners are seeing this.
Today, we’ll highlight some of the top shingle color trends for 2020.
So, sit back, grab a pen and notepad, and write down some of these awesome options of shingle colors that we’ll no doubt see more of in the upcoming new year.
First up, hickory.
As a caveat going forward, it’s important to remember how these shingles will look on your home is largely dependent on the color of your siding and the rest of your home. Even the most gorgeous of shingles can be undercut if they clash with the rest of the home.
That being said, if you can make Hickory work with the rest of your home, it is a fantastic option and will be one of the colors that will certainly lead the charge heading into 2020.
Hickory shingles do have a bit of a classic feel to them and they look great when paired with brick, tan siding, and other shades of brown. However, Hickory is one that won’t be for everyone, as more and more homeowners are moving towards incorporating more modern colors into their homes.
But, for those who want to create a more vintage-looking home that combines classic elements with contemporary details as well, Hickory is a solid option.
Appalachian Sky is as gorgeous as it sounds. In addition to its beauty, it’s an extremely versatile shingle color making it a great choice for many homes. Commonly seen on blue and gray houses, as well as brick homes, Appalachian Sky can conform to the style of your home.
For traditional-style homes, this color looks great. But, because it is so versatile, modern homes can also use Appalachian Sky to top their house. So, while some colors on this list are extremely dependent on the rest of your home, this color of shingle can make it work with just about anything.
Because Appalachian Sky has a lot of similar color shingles — like the bolder charcoal or lighter Nantucket Morning — you can shop around until you find the perfect shade of black/gray. If you really like the vibe of Appalachian Sky but it won’t look quite right on your home, going with an offshoot color by either going darker or lighter will allow you to find the perfect black/gray shingle for your home and style preferences.
Weathered Wood is another shingle color that will certainly be popular in 2020, and long after as well. Because it’s a more neutral color and doesn’t pop as much as say a hickory shingle, it is a solid choice for those who are worried about being too “over the top” with their roofing color.
Weathered Wood works well with many different types of siding materials and colors. In fact, you’d be hard-pressed to find a home that wouldn’t look great with this type of shingle.
Slate is already a pretty popular choice for shingles and it is showing no signs of slowing down heading into 2020. A calm, cool, and collected shingle, Slate is a timeless shingle color that looks great on any type of home.
Similar to Appalachian Sky, there are many similar shingles that vary in the shade so it’s a good idea to take a look at these other colors to ensure you find the right shade of black for your home (including Pewter Gray and Charcoal).
